Teenage Bounty Hunters

OVERALL: Thank goodness for Netflix ads, and emails. I would never have watched this show. But when I turn on Netflix an an ad comes on, and you get emails, and you click on that pictures of two teenage girls holding guns and boom. I am there. Plus the sisters, Sterling and Blair Wesley, are utterly wonderful characters. They catch the depth and shallowness of being privileged white girls AND they are aware enough to know it. I would want to be their friends if I was still in high school. Now I just want to be their college instructor.

Just watch it.

POINTS: Sharp and witty. Totally enjoyable. Funny, fun, and full throttle. Throw in some some teen angst and you have a great show.

PITFALLS: Can’t see any yet.

FEMALE CHARACTER(S): Yes. Our heroines the, twins of the title, Sterling Wesley (Maddie Phillips) and Blair Wesley (Anjelica Bette Fellini) are wonderful twins who love each other, support each other. They are a wonderful duo who play off each other perfectly. Well cast, well played, well done!

CULTURAL PITFALL(S): This shows notes racism and sexist and quite possibly classism and makes note. Even makes fun of. Excellent. Also poking fun religious hypocrisy. It is also addressing the issue of slut-shaming.

HIGH POINT(S):

1.) I feel at times this show is self aware of tropes, both societal and video. I LOVE watching this show.

2.) Bowser Jenkins (Kadeem Hardison) is the wonderful Boss at both bounty hunting and yogurt (watch this show, you’ll understand). I love his reactions when the twins talk about teenage girl growing-up stuff. He both cringes, freezes, and mentally runs away. It is the perfect and very realistic reaction of a grown man who likes and respects the young women and just really doesn’t know what to say. PERFECT!
