- OVERALL: Fun, fun, fun, beautiful, fun, action, and Chinese AMAZONS!!! Oh what fun!!!!!!
- POINTS: Amazons! Armour! Swords! Spears! Action! Bows! Women Generals! Honorable Men! AWESOME ACTION WITH LOTS OF WOMEN COVERING SEVERAL GENERATIONS!! OMG!
- PITFALLS: Well, I think that what I am writing is because I am a Westerner and I’ve had acting training. So I tend to judge upon acting skills and style. Now our Western acting and filming style is not like Chinese. To me when I watch a Chinese actor work I think she or he is overacting. But NO! I must make sure that I am not wrong! Perhaps that is the style of Chinese acting and therefore it is perfect. If you can remember that as you watch the movie you will love it. If you can’t, you will need to remind yourself. 🙂
- FEMALE CHARACTER(S): Oh goodness where to begin! There are many wonderful women and men in this movie. What is also nice is that not only are there tons of cool female characters, there are generations of them too. There is a great grandmother, Taijin, who totally rules the day. I mean you can see 4 generations of women battling for the support of the nation and the glory of their family. They are treated as honorable and powerful warriors. So cool!!! So FUN!! In the extras one of the actresses says that her character is brave and heroic. You get the feeling that they all are. In fact, I get the feeling that the director just loved his heroines and wanted to show them off and show how great there were. He viewed them with a loving and honorable eye – very much like men heroes are filmed. So good. 🙂 Plus I think the actresses had a good time, or so I feel from watching the extras. 🙂 That is nice. I also want to learn more about this Yang family as they are the historical references for the movie. 🙂
- CULTURAL PITFALL(S): I can’t say. I loved seeing a movie with lots of women. It seemed to me that their authority and fighting prowess were rarely if ever doubted. Since I know nothing about Chinese culture I can’t really say. Apparently this movie is based in historical fact, so I wish I knew more about these awesome sisters. Plus Jackie Chan and a relative, Frankie, produced and directed this movie. Cool. Thanks for showing off the awesome amazons, Mr. Chan.
- HIGH POINT(S): Chinese sisters kicking buttocks. Need I say more? Oh Wait! The cinematography and colors are GORGEOUS!
- BECHDEL TEST (Website): The Bechdel Test Website does not have this movie there but it is an obvious 3. I mean on my goodness all of these wonderful woman discussing everything from saving their country to protecting theirr family honor. Oh yeah, 3.

- DVD/BLU-RAY WORTHY: Got in Blu-Ray at a discount price. That’s why I watched it. I mean, with a name like Legendary Amazons, I gotta watch it!!
- LION PAW PRINTS: 3. This movie is loads of fun and very very very pretty. Hubby likes it too.
