Star Trek: Lower Decks

OVERALL: I love the new Star Trek shows that are appearing. They can finally show all of human diversity they couldn’t show in early years. LOVE IT! The newest Trek show is Lower Decks. It is an animated series from CBS All Access that has figured out just how AWESOME Trek truly is. 

After I watched the first episode with my hubby all I wanted to do was watch the rest of the series!!! It is amazing!! IT is true Trek. All of the great issues about Trek are explored. 

And it is FUN!!!! It pokes fun of everything about Trek that us true fans have always thought. Or wanted to see. However if you don’t know any Trek you will still love it and laugh. This show is for everyone! 

If you aren’t watching this show, what are you even doing with your life?!

POINTS: The dialogue is freaking amazing. It is fast, clipped, crisp, and conveys so much information in just a few sentences. Brilliant. 

PITFALLS: Why are there only 10 episodes?! Oh WAIT! There is already a season 2 and it should come out in summer 2021. Can’t wait. ‘Star Trek: Lower Decks’ Season 2 Will Explore Mariner’s Sexuality; And (Probably) Feature More TNG Cameos. 

FEMALE CHARACTER(S): YES!! Our main heroine – although this is an ensemble piece – is Beckett Mariner (Tawny Newsome) along with D’Vana Tendi (Noël Wells). We also have Captain Carol Freeman (Dawnn Lewis) and Dr. T’Ana (Gillian Vigman). These characters all have their own foils and strengths and you just want to hang out with them nonstop. 

There are also many other female characters throughout the show. It isn’t a case of a few women with men everywhere. This is a nicely diverse cast and background characters. 

CULTURAL PITFALL(S): None. Come on people, it’s Trek. 

HIGH POINT(S): 

1.) Ensigns Beckett Mariner, Brad Boimler, D’Avana Tendi, and Samanthan Rutherford. Our four ensigns have a wonderful friendship and joyous adventures. You just want to be with them. I could watch them all day and frequently do.  

2.) Sarcastic Vulcan Salute. Just watch to find out. 

3.) Chu Chu Dance. I really want to do that. Oh and there’s a t-shirt too!
