Happy!

OVERALL: OMG What Happened?!! Did the Creative Fairy get binged on the head by cocaine shot out of a t-shirt cannon that was covered in rainbow colored candy?!?!? I think yes. This show is a wild, funny, crazy, over-the-top ride and it is GOOD! Prepare yourself to see something you have never seen before and ENJOY! Plus I really love Happy the “imaginary friend.”

POINTS: This show is crazy so it could easily have failed. However it soars. So well made, so well acted, filmed, framed, scripted. It is a perfect example of great show making. Watch and learn people.

Also well done Christopher Meloni. It looks as though this was your brainchild. You done good.

PITFALLS: Well some of the images in the show are disturbing. However I think they are supposed to be. There were times hubby and I would look at each other and say “Well that’s disturbing!” Though nothing seemed gratuitous. So warning to those who might be prone to go “Ewww!” at fetish behavior. It’s all part of the show and it is crazy good.

FEMALE CHARACTER(S): OMG. So good. The women are second string characters in this show and that is fine as not all stories will have women front and center. What is great is that these women are very interesting, fun, capable, and awesome characters in their own right! First we have Det. Meredith McCarthy played by Lili Mirojnick. I love it when women get to play crusty, pissed off characters. This is usually left to male characters. So cool.

And hooray for some Mama Bear RAGE played by Medina Senghore as Amanda Hansen, mother to our kidnapped child in the show. She runs the full range of emotion, behavior, and character development. I could watch her for hours and LOVED cheering her on. I’m glad she got to be a badass as well. 

Italian Stregas. Ah nothing is more fun for me than some stregas, aka witches. We have a very cool Italian woman who works magic and it is good.

CULTURAL PITFALL(S): More PoC characters would have been good.

HIGH POINT(S):

1.) “Death Before Intimacy.” It’s at the end of episode six. Just watch. Then LOL.

2.) Happy. I LOVE that little creature!! He’s so cute and Patton Oswalt is so good as his voice. I want a Happy doll/Funko pop and I want it now.

3.) Smoothie played by Patrick Fischler. Great villain. Wish I could bounce the character like a ball on broken glass. Yeah. He was that good. 

4.) The Ladies: McCarthy and Hansen. Love mama bear rage and pissed off cop with nothing to lose rage. LOVE that they combined forces. LOVE IT!! Also love the McCarthy gets to come in guns blazing and save the day. Well kinda saves the day. Huzzah to them both!
