The Orville

OVERALL: My overall impressions, thoughts. Wow this is good! Who’d a thunk Seth MacFarlane could make such a thoughtful, fun, Star Trek like show! In fact, this show is, as I read online, a worthy Star Trek salute. Watch it.

POINTS: It has the pacing and feel of Star Trek with some excellent humor. It’s like I’m watching this show, giggling, and thinking “Seth MacFarlane made this?!?!” I admit I’ve never been a fan. Now I think I am!!

What is extra wonderful is the kindness in the show. Oh the humanity! This is a smart, clever show that is touching, funny, and filled with good old fashioned do unto others love. So excellent.

Oh and even if you didn’t love Star Trek you would still enjoy this show. If you LOVE Trek, like I do, oh wow you will really enjoy this show!!

PITFALLS: Well hmm… Haven’t seen any yet.

FEMALE CHARACTER(S): Yes!! So many to choose from I can’t even begin! We have:

• Adrianne Palicki. Been a fan since Agents of SHIELD. She plays Cmdr. Kelly Grayson the First Officer. She is so cool and commanding and fun and just perfect. A great foil for MacFarlane. 
• Penny Johnson Jerald. Been a fan since Deep Space Nine! (Trek!) She is Dr. Claire Finn and she has great lines about being Obi-Wan/Wise Spiritual Leader of Cast. Fabulous! 
• Halston Sage.  The new office Lt. Alara Kitan. Oh such joy! She is new to command and very fun and funny.

CULTURAL PITFALL(S): Well no! I mean, lots of sexist issues are being addressed in a humorous way and I’m only watching episode 2. Whuh?! I did not expect that and I LOVE IT! Also racist nonsense is shunned in this show so excellent again!

Plus OMG the all male species has to deal with having a female child which is not normal for them. It is just perfect on so many levels.

HIGH POINT(S): Star Trek. I know I’ve said it before and I might just say it again because like WOW! I feel like I’ve got some new Trek with a crazy sense of humor. So enjoy.

“They can bite me.”

Yeah, you would never have heard that on Trek so it is really nice to hear it on the show. Just nice.
