Movie Review: “Spiderman: Homecoming”

Spider-Man: Homecoming movie poster

Spider-Man: Homecoming

OVERALL:  Totally enjoyable! Can’t wait for the sequel.

POINTS: Tom Holland is the perfect Spider-Man. In fact, the whole movie had perfect cast.

PITFALLS: Hmm…. The movie might have been a bit long. Or perhaps the better wording is there was a dip in the

FEMALE CHARACTER(S): Yes. They are fun, smart, and compassionate. I really like them. Laura Harrier plays Michelle, the school sweetheart and social queen. She is devoid of the stereotypical nonsense, having male and female friends and being open and friendly with everyone. Zendaya was utterly enjoyable as Liz – great comic relief and OMG I so look forward to seeing her again. Marisa Tomei is a wonderful Aunt May. I basically liked them all.

CULTURAL PITFALL(S): Nope. In fact, one of the things I LOVE about this movie is its diversity. Peter Parker’s school is representative of the many kinds and colors of people who live in New York City. So people in this movie come in all colors, ages, and OMG sizes. This is wonderfully inclusive movie. Love it.

HIGH POINT(S): Tom Holland is the perfect Spider-Man. Michael Keaton was a great, complex villain that I actually felt some sympathy for. Everyone was well cast and had wonderful moments on screen. I really felt like I was IN this movie.

BECHDEL TEST (Website): I want to say 3 of 3. I can’t really remember but I did enjoy seeing the many women talk to each other.

RACIAL BECHDEL TEST (Website): 3 of 3. With this wonderfully diverse cast, this is an easy yes!!
