Dark Matter
OVERALL: Well this is intriguing. And fun. I’ll keep watching. I recommend you give it a try too.
POINTS: Fun concept: space ship crew wake from deep sleep not knowing who they are or who they are to each other. Their core personalities and skills come out as the show progresses. There are lots of plot questions but no holes.
PITFALLS: Hmm…… Well, see Cultural Pitfalls.
FEMALE CHARACTER(S): Yup. We have three(!) and they are competent, smart, strong, questioning – basically well rounded characters. Males and females are treated equally so you know I like that.
CULTURAL PITFALL(S): Well our leader, Two, played by Melissa O’Neil occasionally comes across as mad and angry to assert her leadership. This is an old trope and one that may change over time. We do get to see her lessen in her anger in just a few episodes and it was good to hear her say that she “stepped up” to become the leader. I have hope and I do like her very much.
HIGH POINT(S): Wondering about the identity of each character is fun. Plus watching them interact with each other though they don’t know who they are is intriguing and fun. Plus it is a “mystery” show that does not have any signs of boring me. I also really like watching the cast. They work well together and it is good to see.
