Movie Review: “Spy”

Spy golden poster

Spy

OVERALL: OMG. So good, so well done, so perfect. Go see it!!!! Hubby and I laughed out loud many times and then quoted the movie to each other all weekend long. Love it!

POINTS: Director Paul Feig had a spy movie in his soul and this is it. Perfect script, acting, and directing. Plus if you love spy and intrigue movies this is so your latte. It is perfectly written and paced as a spy movie. It also makes you laugh. The movie worked as both a comedy and a spy thriller. Oh well done!!

PITFALLS: I don’t own it on DVD yet.

FEMALE CHARACTER(S): Of course. Paul Feig is a supporter of women in movies and it has paid off for him very well (Box Office Mojo: Bridesmaids, The Heat, and now Spy). We get to watch Susan Cooper played to perfection by Melissa McCarthy go through all the pitfalls of being an overlooked woman in the workplace. Perfect. Just perfect.

CULTURAL PITFALL(S): More PoC would be good. Next time. 😉

HIGH POINT(S):

1.) Melissa McCarthy. I love this woman. I truly do. And I admire her and she inspires me. She is a truly gifted comedian. Plus she gets this look in her eye and I just start to laugh. Love you Melissa!

2.) Paul Feig. Sir, I salute you for so many reasons. You are a gifted director and writer and you support women as well as men. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Now please keep making more!!! BTW: His name is pronounced “Feeg”.

3.) Huzzah to 50 Cent! Who’d a thought he was so fun and funny!? I truly enjoyed him in this movie and hope to see him do more. Well done sir!

4.) Jason Statham! I would never have guessed Jason Statham has comedic chops and is so good at spoofing his own action style movie. Huzzah to Jason as well!

5.) The Theme Song/Opening Credits. OMG. Played on typical spy opening sequences and made you laugh. Perfect! You can hear the theme song below but trust me, the opening movie credits are so much better for the visuals!!!

6.) Easter Egg at End of Credits. I can’t write what it is because I do not want to give it away. Just STAY through all the end credits because you are in for another good laugh. 🙂
