OVERALL: OMG this movie is BEAUTIFUL! Go see it just for the visuals. I want to watch it again without sound just to look. And yes I would see this again in the theater. Hubby LOVED this movie and I know he would go again with me as well. 🙂 Plus I will always have a soft spot in my heart and soul for The Wachowskis – Andy Wachowski and Lana Wachowski so I will see anything they do. 🙂

POINTS: Visually beautiful. This is a feast for your eyes and senses. I would love to see this in IMAX because there is so much to see visually. I saw this in 3D and felt like it was perfect. I felt I could touch the images. It was gorgeous! And fun.

PITFALLS: Ok, Jupiter Ascending has a pretty tried and tired plot of lost princess. But I do have to admit it does have a twist on the genre. I felt sometimes the characters behaved idiotically but then again, I’ve seen this story before and I’m not a young twenty-something either. There are time the editing and/or plot was jumpy but eh. I was enthralled with watching.

FEMALE CHARACTER(S): Lots of fun characters. I liked that Jupiter, played by Mila Kunis, had some depth to her other than being the “beautiful girl” heroine.* I like her compassionate strength. Yes there are times she is dumb, but that is not limited to her. The men characters fall right in to that as well. I also liked the wide range of women characters in age, class, and experience and it was fun to see.

CULTURAL PITFALL(S): I love the Wachowski Sibs because they are aware of cultural, racial, and sexist biases so they stomp them. I love watching a movie where heroes come in all shapes and colors. 🙂 Just watch the movie and you will see. Yes the main characters are all white. But we have some wonderful PoC in top supporting roles and that is always a step in the right direction.

HIGH POINT(S):

1.) Costumes. OMG may I have them all please? Of course I don’t look anywhere near as good as any of the people in the movie, but oh just touching those treasures would make me happy.

2.) Space Battles. Holy Toledo Blades! You want to watch the whole movie in slo-mo just to catch every cool moment.

3.) Earth Battles. Whoa! Let’s face is “car chase” will never be the same again after watching this movie. Also the way the way actors move during the scenes is remarkable.

4.) “Yoopiter”. I LOVE how Jupiter’s mother says her name in her Russian accent. 🙂 It just made me smile throughout the entire movie.
