Movie Review: “American Hustle”

OVERALL: I thought it would be good. I didn’t think it would be THAT good!

POINTS: The beginning, the middle, and the end. It was all superb.

PITFALLS: I don’t own the DVD yet. And I did wonder how Amy Adams kept from falling out of her clothing, though I do understand the clothing choices for the character.

FEMALE CHARACTER(S): Yes we had at least two very well realized women characters: Sydney Prosser, played by Amy Adams, and Rosalyn Rosenfeld played by a personal favorite, Jennifer Lawrence. Both women were fully realized people who had complex motives, emotions, and thoughts. It was fun to hear how smart Amy Adam’s character was. That was nice to see.

CULTURAL PITFALL(S): It was a period piece so anything you may not like about the 70s, will be seen here.

HIGH POINT(S): The acting, the script, the direction, the set design, the costumes, the music – disco dancing, and the plot twists. In short, this movie deserves every nomination and award it gets. Huzzah.

BECHDEL TEST (Website): 3 of 3. Well, well done American Hustle! Though I would only have given it a 2 or 2.5 I am pleased to see that it was 3 of 3.
