OVERALL: Go see this movie. It will make you laugh whether you like the SF or not. 🙂

POINTS:  SF action! Fun characters! Funny references! Salute to Star Trek fandom!!!

PITFALLS: I’ll let ya’ know.

FEMALE CHARACTER(S): Gwen DeMarco (Sigourney Weaver) is a lot of fun and has more to do in this movie then just stand around. She takes on the traditionally “female” role of keeping the group of men together.  But she is fun and smart and I like her a lot.  There is also the alien Laliari (Missi Pyle) is fun and adorable. She too is good at her job. It would though, have been nice to see more women. However since it was spoofing/saluting a certain genre, that is not surprising.

CULTURAL PITFALL(S): Hmmm… The movie mentions and makes fun of how women in SF are treated. Plus our heroine, Gwen comes through in the end to help save the day too. [SPOILER ALERT] Though will all the talk about her neckline I didn’t know why they had to make it so plunging at the very end.

HIGH POINT(S):  Where to begin?!?!? A loving salute to and spoof on Star Trek and its fans. A loving salute to fandom and a lovely ending. If you a Trek fan you will LOVE this movie. If you don’t know a thing about Trek you will enjoy this movie. It is Win/Win all around.
