INTRODUCTION: This movie is part of the movie viewing extravaganza my beloved hubby and I enjoy over the long weekend that Labor Day gives us. Hence the tag Labor Day Weekend 2016. Morgan was the first movie we saw.
OVERALL: It was good, creepy, and interesting. Granted the scientists and behaviorists always didn’t act like scientists and behaviorists but good anyway.
POINTS: I loved the look of this movie. The cinematography was wonderful!! There were shots when I elbowed my hubby so he could see how great it was. Wow! That excellent cinematography, and fabulous cast probably saved the movie from being terrible or dull.
PITFALLS: I would like to encourage movie writers to actually observe and learn what the scientists they write about actually do. No really. Day to day activities, term usage, moral judgments, etc. There were times I wondered about the protocols the movie scientists would have created and/or followed in such a situation.
FEMALE CHARACTER(S): May and varied and that was good. Very good. Any movie that has Michelle Yeoh (Dr. Lui Chang) in it, has a bit of my heart. The women in the movie were mostly scientists and seemed to be interesting characters with their own backstories. Cool.
CULTURAL PITFALL(S): Check out Pitfalls.
1.) Michelle Yeoh. Because Michelle Yeoh.
2.) Kate Mara. Well my goodness!! I admit that I was not sure about her casting until the very end. Then I realized how perfect she was. Well done Ms. Mara!
3.) The Set. I loved the juxtaposition of the crumbling Gothic style house with the high tech set of the scientific laboratory. Very cool.
BECHDEL TEST (Website): 3 of 3. Well done!
RACIAL BECHDEL TEST (Website): 2 of 3 however there were many diverse PoC characters and that was very nice to see.
