Zootopia

INTRODUCTION: I just finished adding Mildred’s Zathura review which is also the first ever KidMovieThon review so my brain slapped me upside my head and said “Hey! Write that Zootopia review!” So I did, and here it is. Note that it is the second KidMovieThon review. 🙂

OVERALL: O.M.G. What a fun, wonderful movie!!! I was told it was good! I was told it was making money! I was told it rocked! Everyone was right. This is an amazing movie.

POINTS: First the animation, story line, writing, acting, it is all there. A tightly written and executed movie, animation or otherwise.

PITFALLS: None.

FEMALE CHARACTER(S): Yes! Our heroine is Judy Hopps voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin. She is the rabbit/bunny who becomes Zootopia’s first bunny cop. She’s delightful.

CULTURAL PITFALL(S): This movie studies and addresses prejudices and hits them on the head. This movie does what good science fiction/fantasy does: Addresses cultural pitfalls in a way that people can SEE it and begin to understand it. I can see generations of people seeing this movie and becoming more aware of their own prejudices. So excellent.

HIGH POINT(S):

1.) Judy Hopps and Her Radio. It just makes you laugh as she tries to find the perfect song to cheer her up and well, not working. So good. I know Judy was bummed but it make me and Hubby laugh ’cause hey, we have all been there.

2.) Mafia King Mr. Big – the Mole. OMG I laughed so hard when Mr. Big came on the screen! In a scene right out of The Godfather, Mr. Big and his daughter made their entrance. I wanted to stand up and bow, but I was too busy laughing

3.) Alan Tudyk as Duke Weaselton. LOLOL! So meta ’cause it refers to Frozen. In fact, they refer to Frozen several times which is not surprising since the same people worked on both fabulous movies.

4.) The Mystic Springs Oasis & Nangi, Elephant Yoga Instructor. O.M.G. Naked animals. In an all animal movie. With an elephant yoga instructor. ROFLOL! I was laughing so hard I almost cried. And I almost covered my eyes because well, I’m getting prudish in my old age. LOL!

BECHDEL TEST (Website): 3 of 3. Yes the female characters do talk to each other and not about the lead male at all.

RACIAL BECHDEL TEST (Website): 3 of 3. Well, I have to say yes to the 3 of 3. After all the movie is about noticing and then moving beyond prejudices over how someone looks or who they are. Predator and Prey interact with each other in this flick and it is good.
