TV Review: “Sense8”

OVERALL: Holy Toledo Blades people, this is a production made by J. Michael Straczynski (JMS) and The Wachowskis (or as I like to call them The Wachowski Sibs).

This means that the creator of Babylon 5 and The Matrix combined forces and made this show! OMG PEOPLE GET EXCITED!!! It is a masterpiece of story telling showing the power and passion of these giant storytellers. Huzzah!!!

And HOORAY! Sense8 has been renewed for a second season!!! Hooray for Netflix!

POINTS: Where to begin? Both storytellers – JMS and The Wachowskis – explore diversity, otherness, culture, and spirituality. Plus they both love Sci-Fi/Fantasy. So Sense8 gives you a beautiful banquet of all of these elements.

PITFALLS: Oh my. Well this isn’t really a pitfall – it is more of an observation about myself – but I must warn that the love scenes in this show are HAWT, intimate, and graphic. They are tasteful and honoring and oh my, I often have to look away! (Who’d a thunk I was prudish?!) This is NOT a criticism – I think other film makers should take note. I just get embarrassed for the actors and then well, for myself. 🙂

Ok, ok, one incredibly minor pitfall: I think the beats in the show could be shortened a bit. IMHO.

FEMALE CHARACTER(S): Yes yes a thousand times yes! Wonderful female and male characters. So many and all so good.

CULTURAL PITFALL(S): Wellllllll….. I’ll let ya’ know.

HIGH POINT(S):

1.) “Help me/I got this.” These lines and concepts are used a lot in Sense8 as the Sense8 begin to reach out and help each other at different times in the show. LOVE it. LOVE IT!!! The concept is played out often and I love it each time. I love how the characters begin to rely on and enjoy each other as the season grows. 🙂 To see examples check out the SPOILERS below but you have been warned!
