TV Review: “Arrow”

INTRODUCTION: This is the first of three DC TV Reviews. Enjoy!

OVERALL: Hubby and I were looking forward to this show the minute we heard about it. Several seasons later we are still watching and still enjoying. Now what I write below will be through the eyes of someone who has watched the show from the start. I’ve seen how characters grow and that has changed a bit of what I have written below. 🙂

POINTS: Stephen Amell is a perfect Oliver Queen. He has the physical and charismatic power and strength to carry this show. Yes it is an ensemble piece, but he is a good, solid center. I enjoy how he has transformed his character. Good job Mr. Amell and show writers and producers. This is a gem and a show worth watching. Plus there are times I can’t guess what the characters will do or plot will go next and that always makes me happy.

PITFALLS: Sometimes I think things need to ease up for the characters. No need to be too dramatic all the time. I know, I know, that is what makes this show this show. But uh, a few happy things would be nice. 🙂

FEMALE CHARACTER(S): There are several interesting characters to choose from who have grown and changed over the show’s seasons. First we have Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy) who is not only a smart lawyer, but also turns into a hero in her own right. (SPOILERS) Next you have Thea Queen (Willa Holland) got under my skin a lot as a bratty younger sister, but ooooo I am liking the growing-up Thea a LOT! And finally my current fave, Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards) who is the resident Geek and is great at it. There are also other women who have come and gone, or continue to keep coming back, that are also enjoyable. In short, the women in this show have their own plot arcs and storylines and this is GOOD. 🙂

Also the male and female characters treat each other as equals and that is very nice. 🙂 Huzzah!

CULTURAL PITFALL(S): There are times when I think the Queen family just needs more therapy to get over their inability to communicate with each other.

HIGH POINT(S): The show itself has its own personality, tension, feel, call it what you will. It feels like no other show on TV. For that alone it is worth watching.

BECHDEL TEST (Website): 1 of 3 to 3 of 3. I quite enjoy that.

RACIAL BECHDEL TEST (Website): 1 of 3 to 3 of 3. YAY!
