OVERALL: Classy. Plus: Go Sean Bean go!
POINTS: An intriguing show about undercover agents that also throw in questioning identity and reality. Add a fun cast and competent scripts and you have yourself a good show. Watch it and enjoy. This show is going to take off.
PITFALLS: Hmmmm…. See Cultural Pitfalls.
FEMALE CHARACTER(S): Hmmmmm again. We have two main women characters in the hero’s “team”: Crystal Quest (really that’s her name, I know, what?!?!) played by the awesome Ali Larter and Maggie Harris (better name) played by Tina Majorino. They both seem like competent women and I do appreciate that when seeing professional women.
CULTURAL PITFALL(S): Welllllll…. I was really bothered when the only way Crystal Quest could talk to Sean Bean’s character Martin Odum was to pose as a stripper and give him a private “lap dance.” Oh good grief. How contrived and obnoxious. Frankly I am sick and tired of scenes in tv and movies taking place in strip joints. I think this happens because the men on the set just want to stare at boobs. Can’t say I blame them, however please do that on your time not mine. First we don’t need the cultural pat on the back that says yes this woman is strong an professional but she is also sexy too! See she’s a real woman because she is sexy! Uh no. Can we stop with this please? Plus yes Ali Larter is one of the most beautiful women on the planet. If you can’t enjoy seeing her beauty while she is in her suits, well I suggest you start using your imagination. And/or just buy glasses.
Note: At the end of the scene Hubby also felt Crystal should have belted Martin. No he wasn’t gropey but he did lead her to believe a camera was running.
HIGH POINT(S): Sean Bean gets to show his considerable acting chops, aka talent. The man is not just another pretty face. He has always been able to stand with any actor and it is good that he gets to show this.
BECHDEL TEST (Website): 2 or 3 of 3. Well Huzzah! Although this has not yet been reviewed by Bechdel I would give it this rating. We have two women working together in a professional manner and they do, although at this point in the series, interact briefly. It’s good.
RACIAL BECHDEL TEST (Website): 2 of 3. I don’t know if the PoC will ever interact much but there are at least two PoC male characters and this is good.
IMDB: Legends (TV Series 2014 – )
OFFICIAL WEBSITE: TNT Legends
DVD/BLU-RAY WORTHY: Sure. I think I would buy this on DVD.
LION PAW PRINTS: 3 of 5.
*Oh and treat the dancers with respect and tip them well, got it? What they do can’t be easy.
