Sunrise on the Reaping

Welcome to two new categories here in Chick Flicking Reviews: Early Review and Audiobook. Early Review means I haven’t finished the media yet. Audiobook means, well, I’m listening to an audiobook!

Review & NO SPOILERS!

I am listening to the new masterpiece Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins. This is a Hunger Games book, the fifth to be published. I have started enjoying audiobooks, thanks friends for the advice, and I sat down with my hard copy of the book. If I like a book, I buy the hard copy. I love the Hunger Games series so I pre-ordered Sunrise on the Reaping from my local bookstore, Morgenstern.

I knew I would enjoy Sunrise on the Reaping. The other books in the series are amazing. The movies were very good too. So when I knew this book was being publishing AND the corresponding movie would be coming out soon, I had to get a copy. As I sat down to read it I thought wait a minute, what about the audiobook? Thank goodness I could borrow a version from my local library – Monroe County Public Library (MCPL) – so I checked. OMG! There was a copy available! I downloaded a copy, thanks Hoopla, and began to listen.

Wow. I am exactly 47% through the book. The same feelings that I experienced reading the other books are once again in my gut. How Collins can write the banality of terror in every step of this book is breathtaking. I don’t know how she does it. I care for these characters. I hope for them. I see the utter cruelty of the villains and there is a part of me that wants to run away. Yet I am invested and I must listen to the very end. Just like the other Hunger Games books. This is a masterpiece.

So whether you read or listen or both, go get this book and experience it. The odds will be in your favor.
