INTRODUCTION: This movie is part of the movie viewing extravaganza my beloved hubby and I enjoy over the long weekend that Labor Day gives us. Hence the tag Labor Day Weekend 2016. Kubo and the Two Strings was the fourth and last movie we saw.
OVERALL: Wow! This was an experience. It was beautiful, had a pacing I wasn’t expecting, and the character acting was lovely.
POINTS: The Monkey sidekick was a woman. 🙂 Granted that is explained but still I really liked it as you don’t see that often.
PITFALLS: These jobs. 🙂
FEMALE CHARACTER(S): Mom gets to kick butt. I liked that the female characters got to defy family and cultural traditions and basically do their own thing. The women in this movie had power in their own right. Cool.
CULTURAL PITFALL(S): How come the older woman had to be an object of derision? I am tired of older women being made fun of for flirting and basically no longer being 20 years old. Enough ageism, ok?
HIGH POINT(S): How beautiful the movie was.
BECHDEL TEST (Website): 3 of 3. Yes! It was short, but it was there. 🙂
RACIAL BECHDEL TEST (Website): 3 of 3! YES!
IMDB: Kubo (2016)
DVD/BLU-RAY WORTHY: Yes.
LION PAW PRINTS: 3.5 of 5. It was quite the experience.
SCOTT SAYS: Kubo is a must see movie.
